Overview of Engineering Services at Runge & Associates Inc.

(RAI) RAI will offer all aspects of electrical engineering services including preliminary engineering, detail design, approvals, construction management and post-construction services. The following items will identify majority of the services offered by RAI under the various market sectors:


Municipal (Water and Wastewater)
  • Power Design; low and medium voltage distribution (up to 44kV), substation, transformer and switchgear design, load analysis, power breaker controls, protective relaying, short circuit and coordination, harmonic analysis, and local utility coordination.
  • Standby Power Systems; selection of standby power engine-generators and transfer switches, ensuring they meet MOE’s standard specifications.
  • Motor Controls; variable frequency drives and reduced voltage “soft” starter applications, motor control centre layouts, customer metering and elementary control diagrams.
  • Instrumentation; instrument selection for process measurements of pressure, level, flow, temperature, humidity and analytical, including calibration verifications. Implementation of loop controllers, actuators, control valves, instrument loop diagrams and P&ID’s.
  • Control Systems Reviews and Specifications; controller (PLC and HMI) selection and evaluations, CAD designs and layouts, control narrative descriptions, System Integrator co-ordination, and analog and digital I/O verifications. • SCADA Integration Reviews; Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, communication networking, Ethernet architectures, Radio telemetry integration and propagation reviews, hardware and software selection, and system configurations.
  • Control Narratives: Detail descriptions of process narratives.
Utility Industry
  • Pole Line Designs; overhead distribution lines (up to 44kV) as per CSA and USF (Utility Standards Forum) standards.
  • Layout and Field Analysis: staking of pole locations and assessing of existing pole lines.
  • Third Party Attachment: assessing pole heights for attachment of communication cables (i.e. third party).
  • Coordination Studies and Reviews
Buildings (Commercial and Institutional)
  • Power Distribution; low and medium voltage distribution (up to 44kV), substation, transformer and switchgear design, load analysis, power breaker controls, protective relaying, short circuit and coordination, harmonic analysis, and local utility coordination.
  • Emergency and Standby Power Systems; selection of emergency and standby power engine-generators and transfer switches.
  • Lighting Designs; Design of various indoor and outdoor lighting arrangement, including fluorescent, LED, high pressure sodium and metal halide.
  • Building Automation: building control system for energy conservation and HVAC control
  • Security Systems: authorized and unauthorized entry system.
  • Fire Alarm Systems: new building designs and upgrades to existing facilities.
  • UPS Systems: Uninterruptible Power Supply integration.
  • Data Systems and Management: communication wiring for technologies and data systems.
  • Building Inspections: assessing life safety systems and recommendations.
Wind Energy Sector
  • Collector System Design; overhead transmission line connection to utility grids (up to 44kV).
  • Interconnection Design: assessment of interfacing generated system with utility grid system.
  • Utility Coordination: compiling information for customer connection agreements with utilities, including liaison with electrical inspection authorities.
Industrial
  • Safety Circuit Designs: designing safety system to comply with a pre-start health and safety review.
  • Electrical Designs: All elements of electrical engineering such as power distribution, controls, instrumentation, lighting, building sciences, generator applications, data management, etc.
  • Arc Flash Analysis: assessing personnel protective equipment requirements at existing distributions equipment for workers.
Land Development (residential and commercial)
  • Power Distribution: underground power design for utility services.
  • Servicing Designs: underground services for building lots and building tenants.
  • Street Lighting Design and Analysis: photometric calculations and street lighting layouts.
Contract Administration
  • Contract Preparation: technical specifications, tender documents and tender assessments.
  • Contract Coordination: shop drawing reviews, contractor coordination/scheduling and assessing payment certificates.
  • On-Site Services: inspections and commissioning.
  • Maintenance Inspections and Analysis: post construction and maintenance period.
