Runge & Associates Inc. (RAI) offers all aspects of electrical and mechanical engineering services, including preliminary engineering, detail design, approvals, construction management and post-construction services. Mechanical Engineering

  • HVAC System Design: Overall building cooling and heating requirements.
  • Boiler system reviews and energy efficiency designs.
  • Building Management Systems: Building automation and control systems design and implementation.
  • Water quality assessment reviews.
  • Fire Fighting Protection Systems: Sprinkler design.
  • Plumbing Systems: All aspects of industrial and commercial plumbing design.
  • MOE Certificate of Air Approvals for diesel engine generator sets

Electrical Engineering

  • Power Design: Low and medium voltage distribution (up to 44kV), substation, transformer and switchgear design, load analysis, power breaker controls, protective relaying, short circuit and coordination, harmonic analysis, and local utility coordination.
  • Standby Power Systems: Selection of standby power engine-generators and transfer switches, ensuring they meet the MOE’s standard specifications.
  • Motor Controls: Variable frequency drives and reduced voltage “soft” starter applications, motor control centre layouts, customer metering and elementary control diagrams.
  • Instrumentation: Instrument selection for process measurements of pressure, level, flow, temperature, humidity and analytical, including calibration verifications. Implementation of loop controllers, actuators, control valves, instrument loop diagrams and P&IDs.
  • Control Systems Reviews and Specifications: Controller (PLC and HMI) selection and evaluations, control narrative descriptions, System Integrator co-ordination, and analog and digital I/O verifications.
  • SCADA Integration Reviews: Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, communication networking, Ethernet architectures, Radio telemetry integration and propagation reviews, hardware and software selection, and system configurations.
  • Lighting Designs: Design of various indoor and outdoor lighting arrangements, including fluorescent, LED, high pressure sodium and metal halide.
  • Building Automation: Building control systems for energy conservation and HVAC control.
  • Security Access Control and Surveillance Systems: Authorized and unauthorized entry systems, door interlocks and card readers.
  • Fire Alarm Systems: New building designs and upgrades to existing facilities.
  • UPS Systems: Uninterruptible power supply integration and distribution.
  • Data Systems and Management: Communication wiring for technologies and data systems, including wireless.
  • Building Inspections: Assessing life safety systems and making recommendations.

Exterior Lighting, Traffic Signals and Land Development

  • Power Distribution: Underground power design for utility services, including feasibility studies and substation designs.

Utility Industry

  • Pole Line Designs: Overhead distribution lines (up to 44kV) as per CSA and USF (Utility Standards Forum) standards.
  • Layout and Field Analysis: Staking of pole locations and assessing of existing pole lines.
  • Third Party Attachment: Assessing pole heights for attachment of communication cables (i.e., third party).
  • Coordination Studies and Reviews.

Energy Generation Sector (Wind, Hydraulic)

  • Collector System Design: Overhead transmission line connection to utility grids (up to 44kV).
  • Interconnection Design: Assessment of interfacing generated system with utility grid system.
  • Utility Coordination: Compiling information for customer connection agreements with utilities, including liaison with electrical inspection authorities, Hydro One Form A and B submissions.

Industrial

  • Mechanical safety reviews for pre-start health and safety (PSRs).
  • Safety Circuit Design: Design of circuits with light curtains, safety relays and interlocking schemes where interfacing between “machine and personnel” are required for pre-start health and safety reviews.
  • Control Integration: Line integration and design coordination for various network platforms.
  • Instrumentation: Instrument selection for process measurements of pressure, level, flow and temperature.

Contract Administration

  • Contract Preparation: Technical specifications, tender documents and tender assessments.
  • Contract Coordination: Shop drawing reviews, contractor coordination/scheduling and assessing payment certificates.
  • On-site Services: Inspections and commissioning.
  • Maintenance Inspections and Analysis: Post-construction and maintenance period.
  • Operating and Maintenance Manual Reviews.
  • Factory and Site Acceptance Testing: Perform FAT and SAT tests to verify compliance with specifications.
